Kratos: The Incredible Transformation of a Gaming Icon - Part One
I really don't like Freya. She is only sad because Baldur is mad at her. She doesn't seem to care at all about his loss. She still hasn't taken responsibility at the end. She never apologized to Baldur. She screamed "nooooo!" when the spell was broken. She was still selfish.
"the ultimate american"
13:00 Joel was dismissive and hostile towards Marlene because Tommy had joined the fireflies against his will, and then the next scene with Tess which you showed, that reaction was because of her being bitten and she was desperate to not all be in vain
Anytime I think of Joel I just get a sense of disgust remembering TLoU 2.
No.
On a side note: first time i heard him call Frya "queen mistletoe" i spit out my drink and laughed so hard, and every time i hear it still makes me chuckle a bit
I knew something was up later into my first playthrough when she stopped saying "allmind exists for all mercenaries" at the end of every message
Ah, G(roaning bastard) 5, Iguana.
"Hella, Magnus and Modi" Come on bro if you want to try to convince people on your point, at least do some research and get the names right.
Realistically if Ted was smart enough to realize the loss of the Hartz-timor Swarm and instantly issued a callback and let the armies be deployed it could've been nipped in the butt I recon. They gave the swarm time and more machines to infect.
One note about 44:14: He is harsh on Atreus not because he wants to further ingratiate himself with Kratos but probably to isolate Atreus by fanning the flames of criticism against him from the Kratos camp. This is also why he appeared to be so understanding and mellow in Asgard when not playing as Tyr. He is deliberately creating a contrast in treatment with his disguise so he can draw Atreus back AND cut him off from his support.
You have to watch Children of Men. TLOU is heavily inspired by it, even the font and colour palette lol
I could watch this game as a movie. Absolutely hands down the best game I’ve ever played.
Your video essays breaking down characters and analyzing them are so good. I often find myself listening to them while I'm working. You've got no idea how many times I've listened to your video essay about Sephiroth's character ! I hope you get to pick an interest on breaking down Clive and Cid from FFXVI !
Each origin has a best ending that completes its story. Nomad is best with Panam’s ending completing the story of a nomad who left the life for dreams of the big city only to return to where he truly belonged. Street kids best ending is the solo job becoming the legend he always dreamed of and fulfilling the promise to his best friend. Corpo didn’t really have a best ending until now. Now it’s the decline of a power hungry corporate goon who continues to fall further until finally hitting rock bottom.
I could be 100% wrong but I always thought that Baldur thought Kratos was the Giant. We assume he knows Kratos's backstory because WE know it. It isn't until the end of the game when we discover Fey's real identity as the last Giant that Baldur's introduction makes more sense. At least to me...
He was about to thank Kratos he was bowing not about to attack frays grabbed him before
ypu lose Panamn or Judy right so whats good with that man 😊
I've read somewhere that Draupnir Spears blow up randomly (didn't test it btw) meaning thatif you throw multiple of them they will never blow up folowing a pre-stablished order. Therefore, Heimdall wouldn't be able to foresee it. That throws him off balance and -given the fact that he only relies on his ability to predict the future- doesn't stop to think what to do or fight smart aaaaand gets killed.
4:55 I wish we got more character-development between Thor and his daughter. After Thor stood up to Odin, but didn’t get killed. Though of course, since this was the last game and ”Ragnarök” is the end to everything it was fair to end the Norse saga here.
Michigan kinda reminds me of the “Sassy Leg Infantry” joke from Smosh that Shayne does XD
I like to think this is also why Odin sent Thor or Heimdell with Atreus. Because if anything happened to him or he got seriously injured that would incur Kratos's rath
I really love the scene where Kratos extends his arms at the end of the game and let the wrapped scars be exposed, like accepting his past. I cried, man.
He's the embodiment of the meme, "it should've been me not him" 😂
Bruh Armstrong wouldn’t just get votes! He’d end elections!
I know this probably won't be seen, but the weird instrument you sometimes see dwarves play is called a Hurdy Gurdy! It's one of my favorites so I'm always delighted to see them in media.
And the original creator didn’t want to dig deeper into the story 😑 👎
Tyr is the god of War, not the god of fighting.
I love nonsensical comedic characters, Brok was my favorite from the start, nearly broke down when he died 😭
your video essays are priceless
Your video’s an always so perfectly in depth, are so well articulated and a great to watch man! Would love to see you tackle 3 videos analyzing Young Kratos in the Greece Trilogy with his Obsession for revenge. 🔥
Be the American the Japanese think you are
I mean Aphrodite is still alive and possibly had kids of kratos..... Just saying
Now we need a video about valhalla tyr
I love so much that they made Odin threatening, dangerous, terrifying, but somehow not in any way intimidating
Since Nemesis is literally far zenith, it could have activated Hades because again, it was an *easier* way to do it.
40:47 Brok is already suspicious of Tyr. Refusing to tell him what he is doing with draupnir gives it away
This will sound bad and extreme (because I believe Sindri is extreme on the spectrum in a way), but in my view this form of love is nothing more than an obsessive dependency out of the lack of ability to accept oneself and being content with general solitude. It is a domestication of the mind, created out of one's immaturity or weakness, much like a dog's. Dogs are weaker, they are domesticated and over-socialized, dumber. Nothing like the wolves for instance. A wolf would have the need to form a pack, and being kicked out of one would be emotionally devastating for one, but it would come nothing as close to what a dog would feel like. Emotions aren't a sign of weakness, never said they are, but the reason (as we try to explain feelings in general) behind them tells a lot about the maturity of a character. Dogs never reach the maturity the wolves are capable of. It is scientifically proven that, when taking into account the body maturity of both dogs and wolves, a dog's growth development stops at adolescence and never continues, as opposed to wolves which are the same species. Wolves mature more, are stronger and more intelligent. Wolves don't love like this, only in their infantility. Dogs love like this forever. It is selfish and immature. Yes, you would give your life to save someone you love. But that's not true love, that's just dependency, a great and superior need for someone else, more than anything else. And it is much to the loved person's demise. Much like a baby is dependent on their parents. You do it for yourself in the end, as you said in the video. True love is selfless sacrifice. This type of sacrifice (as explained in the video) is NOT selfless. I can't call it love. I've always perceived Sindri as infantile and pathetic. If he loved Brok, he would have let him go. He is broken by need and selfishness. Maybe I am projecting it hard, the reason as to why I see Sindri as such a pathetic character, but I will always perceive infantility in a mature body as something loathsome. Kratos lets go of Atreus in the end, and there's nothing in his character to loathe there.
42:49 And Faro developed instantaneous human mitosis and saved the world from extinction
I love how at the end of Ragnarok Freya repeats balder's, I don't need you at all speech word for word to odin
honestly kratos and mimir mourned heimdal more than odin did, they genuinely regretted that he had to die, mostly for their own piece of mind but still more than the verbal shrug that odin did
Ngl, the reason I never bring up David or remember his part in the story is because I got so traumatised and locked the experience away in my mind lmao
Great videos I’ve stumbled into your channel recently you have really deep insights into games. One quick correction though I always assumed that Baldurb thought Kratos was a giant and the plot twist is that Faye was one of the Jotnar
Soma fans where you at. He said wow and I knew immediately
I think the reason the Hero’s didn’t look over Tyr’s aggression in Alfheim is because they thought it was the beginning of Tyr turning back to the old God of War he was They were under the impression he was gonna lead their armies against Odin
Uhm, for the Ray of hope section, are you sure that isn't just Tess's condition getting to her and her believing the fireflies is just a coping mechanism? Her arguments are irrational, and she sounds like a raving lunatic. If anything, using her as an example is kinda like saying the only people who believes in the fireflies are desperate people on the brink of breaking clinging on to anything to hope for, even a group that has been consistently portrayed as failures.
I thought these games were pretty boring gameplay wise, but this would have made an excellent movie. Baldur was such a good character
he really vent for 30 mins how much he hates Heimdall
I think the Egyptian goods needs a beating
Character growth, something any marvel character can't and is not allowed to say rn
